Hailing from sunny Perth, Western Australia, Cal has been writing songs since childhood and hit the stages around Perth in his late teens. Cal has supported and played along-side acts such as Jeff Lang, Ash Grunwald,

Matt Gresham, Carla Geneve, Blue Shaddy, Ruby Boots, Stella Donnelly, Lloyd Spiegel and many more appearing at festivals such as Nannup Music Festival, Blues At Bridgetown, Denmark Festival of the Voice, Fremantle Winter Music Festival, Strings Attached Festival, Blossum Festival, Blazing Swan and countless micro festivals.

Having played in bands throughout teens and twenties and spent many years on the road as a young busker on the east coast in the early 2000’s, the last ten years have seen Cal release three independent EPs, win Western Australian Music Song Of The Year for Blues and Roots in 2011 and be nominated for the same category in 2012.

Since the release of 2011 EP Overdrive, recently remastered and released on Spotify, Matt has spent much time and many miles playing gigs and touring the coast of WA.

Matt can be found performing original gutsy yet intimate folk blues in solo or band mode around the scene in Perth under the moniker Matt Cal.  Along with song-writing and performing it is the journey of music production that really captivates Matt in these later years as a Perth Musician

Matt is a presenter on WA's premier alternative community radio station RTRFM 92.1 hosting Sunday arvo show Rockin’ the Roots and has been for some 6 years.

In recent years Matt has put together his own take on The Songwriters Round Table, a musical talk show like no other.

Selling out in 2019 and 2020 in his home town of Kalamunda, Matt was invited to bring the event to the much larger stage of the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre in 2021 as part of their 25th anniversary. It was a magic evening with guests such as Helen Shanahan, Little Lord Street band and many others.

Thank you for taking an interest in Matt’s musical Journey…
